11 die, 4 sustain injuries in Nassarawa auto crash



The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nasarawa said Monday that an accident that occurred along the Akwanga-Lafia highway that involved three vehicles claimed the lives of 11 people, while four others suffered injuries.

Today Nigeria newspaper report that Ismaila Maiwada-Kugu, the sector commander, confirmed the accident to Today Nigeria newspaper  in Lafia on Monday.

Maiwada-Kugu said the accident took place in a place popularly known as “Many have left” in the village of Wowyen on the outskirts of the local Akwanga state government area around 10.25 a.m. on Monday.

Today Nigeria newspaper report that Three vehicles and 15 people were also involved in the accident. Four people were injured while 11 people were killed. The vehicles are, a “Boxer”, a “Sharon”, a motorcycle and a heavy duty trailer, “he said.

Maiwada-Kugu said that FRSC officials learned of the incident quickly moved to the scene to assist and evacuate those affected to the nearest hospital.

“Our officers and men went there and attended to those affected. The information I received is that the trailer landed in one of the vehicles preventing occupants from leaving the vehicle when they were trapped inside, ”he said.

Today Nigeria newspaper also report that Maiwada-Kugu called on drivers to always be cautious, especially when they are at high speed or when they are about to overtake other vehicles in front of them to avoid unfortunate accidents.
