12 children arrested for begging in Kano



The Kano State Hisbah Board on Thursday arrested 12 alleged beggars in the Kano metropolis for allegedly violating the law prohibiting street begging.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the board, Malam Lawan Ibrahim, revealed this in an interview with Latest Nigeria newspaper in Kano.

Ibrahim said the suspects were arrested between 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. in Unguwa Uku, near the Dangi roundabout in the city.

He said the suspects were minor children who were between 10 and 17 years old, adding that they were arrested during different raids in the city.

“Members of the surveillance group arrested them, and in the interrogation, we discovered that seven of them are from the states of Kaduna and Katsina, while the remaining five are street hedgehogs in Kano,” he said.

He further explained that those who are not from the state would be repatriated back to their countries, while hedgehogs would be sent back to their homes.
