Two people have been reported dead, and five others were seriously injured when a gas cylinder exploded along Jigbale Street on Alegbo Road in Effurun, a Uvwie local government area of Delta state.
Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The incident razed an entire building and left all occupants homeless, reports the Daily Post. The dead victims are teenagers who are said to be asleep when the incident happened at night.
It was learned that they died before he could receive help. A resident, who refused to reveal his name, said the explosion occurred in one of the apartments in the complex.
He said: “I heard a loud noise that is believed to be an explosion of a gas bottle from one of the apartments.”
The fire destroyed properties worth several million nairas, including certificates and other documents.
Latest Nigeria newspaper report that Three supporters, who rushed to the scene to help were also injured in the process of rescuing some of the occupants trapped in the building. One of the victims, Mr. Henry James, said he lost everything he had worked in his life in the fire.
He stressed that he only had the clothes he was wearing at the time of the incident. “I thank God for surviving. The fire burned everything I have in the house. This is me, oooooh,” he lamented.
James appealed to members of the public to support him and other victims of the incident to start life again. It was deduced that the remains of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue in the area.
