Mikel Obi, captain of the Super Eagles, has hinted that he could retire from the national team after the African Cup of the Nation, AFCON, in Egypt.
However, he promised to make his last African Nations Cup for Nigeria. Speaking with BBC Sport, Mikel said: “It has been an incredible trip for me in the national team.
“Thirteen years I think it’s enough. I have won trophies, and I had an incredible time. I think it’s time for these young people to move forward. “I am mainly in Egypt to support young people and make sure they are on the right path.
“I think my presence is always significant to them, and I hope I can finish with the trophy. “If I’m fit, I’d love to play in the quarterfinals, but there’s no need to run. “Hopefully, if we can make it to the semifinals, I’ll probably be ready at that moment and help the team if necessary.
“Winning the Nations Cup in South Africa was the highlight, so I want to help this young team achieve their dreams. “If we can win it here, I will be proud, and they will be proud so that they can continue from here.”
The starting time of the match is at 8 pm.
