The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has reacted to the disqualification of its Candidate for the Vice Governor, Senator Biabarakuma Degi by the Federal Superior Court.
Latest Nigeria newspaper report that the Federal Superior Court that was in Abuja on Tuesday disqualified the candidate for deputy governor of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the governor’s elections on November 16, 2019 in Bayelsa state.
The court disqualified Senator Biobarakuma for false information on his form CF0001 submitted to the National Independent Electoral Commissioner (INEC) to contest the elections.
Reacting, the Party’s Advertising Secretary, Doifie Buokoribo, in a statement on Tuesday described the ruling as “dead upon arrival.”
Latest Nigeria newspaper report that Buokoribo said: “The sentence caused a judicial error; It is notoriously perverse and against the weight of the evidence before the Court.
“We are totally surprised that the Court can, despite the objections of our lawyers, move forward to determine a criminal accusation of forgery and fraud solely on the basis of evidence of affidavit contrary to the well-established judicial record that such should be tested beyond reasonable doubt by calling oral evidence.
“We strongly believe that the sentence cannot withstand superior judicial scrutiny, therefore, our attorneys have submitted a notice of appeal and other judicial processes to stop the execution of the sentence pending the outcome of the appeal.
“We call on all our members and supporters not to be distracted, but to continue to mobilize peacefully for the November 16, 2019 elections.”
