The Ogun State Police Command said Saturday that it rescued one of the five pastors kidnapped by alleged Fulani pastors.
The Command, in a statement by police public relations officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said one of the victims, deaconess Ibelegbo Chidinma, was rescued unharmed.
He said the remaining four kidnapped would be rescued from the pit of the safe and sound kidnappers.
The statement says: “The Ogun State Police Command has rescued Ms. Ibelegbo Chidinma, the only woman among the hostages who was unharmed on Thursday.
“The woman who is a deaconess of the Church of Christian Redeemed God regained her freedom at dawn on August 3, 2019, and is currently at the headquarters of the Command in Abeokuta, where arrangements are being made to take her to the Field of Redemption.
“Efforts are in full swing to rescue the remaining victims as the kidnappers who kept them in separate locations changed their locations from time to time within the forest.”
GISTOK had reported that the RCCG General Supervisor, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, announced the kidnapping of clerics on Friday at the Redeemed Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Highway.
Adeboye, while commissioning the congregation to pray for the release of the hostages, said the kidnapping took place on Thursday along the Ijebu-Ode axis.
He was quoted as saying: “As a father, how do you think I should feel when I hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while they were going to the Conference of Ministers?” He asked.
