Not less than 20 people were reportedly crushed after a trailer loaded with agricultural products invaded several tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep, on Tuesday, at the Vinikling Bridge (Hayin Gada) in Yola, Adamawa state.

Residents told Latest Nigeria newspaper that the accident was caused by police officers, who were chasing the truck driver for refusing to give them money.

A resident of Viniklang, Malam Umar Shehu, who also sent photos of the accident to the journalist of the DAILY POSTCARD, said he was involved in the evacuation of the bodies to Yola’s hospital.

According to him, the explanation given by the police was that they were chasing the truck driver for transporting goods suspected of being foreign rice, a situation that led to the unfortunate incident, which resulted in the death of many.

“But there was no foreign rice in the truck, it was an agricultural product. The driver said they were chasing him for refusing to give them money at a police-mounted checkpoint, ”said Umar.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that One of the passengers, a student of the Modibo Adama University, who identified himself as Salisu Ibrahim said he narrowly escaped death by mustaches.

“I didn’t know what happened, but suddenly we saw that the truck was coming with speed and the police van was chasing it. Everyone in our Keke Napep jumped and ran away, the driver lost control and the truck started hitting other Keke Napep and crushing people before our own eyes. It was horrible, ”said Ibrahim.

However, Daily Post made several attempts for Othman Abubakar, the public relations officer of the Adamawa police to speak, but his phone was off at the time of this report.
