The Lagos State Police Command said a 43-year-old commercial bus driver was found dead in a mechanic shop after allegedly taking a liquid substance suspected of being a sniper.
Command spokesman DSP Bala Elkana confirmed the incident in a statement Monday, NAN reports.
Elkana said Shomolu Pedro police station received information that a Kabiru Bello of number 77, Owode Ibeshe, Ikorodu, Lagos State, allegedly drank a liquid substance suspected of being a sniper.
He said the incident happened on Saturday at 12.56 p.m. inside his Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number AKD-724 XM while he was in a mechanic shop at the Ladylack bus stop, Shomolu.
“He was taken to Adesola’s clinic, Shomolu, where he was confirmed dead. Homicide detectives visited the scene. An empty bottle of chemical substances suspected of being snipers was recovered.
“The body has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy,” he said.
Similarly, the police in the Lagos Ilemba Hausa area have recovered two single-barrel cannons manufactured locally with 12 cartridges, a laptop and a mobile phone inside a vehicle abandoned by suspected thieves.
The police spokesman said the recovery took place on Saturday at 9.30 p.m. after the Ilemba Hausa police station received a distress call that an armed robber stripped Wale Lawal of his laptop.
Elkana said police officers deployed at the scene gave the thugs “a blazing chase where the alleged thieves abandoned their black Honda vehicle with the registration number KJA-705 BU containing the recovered items.
“The vehicle was moved to the station for further investigation,” he said.
