‘CBN Governor’ arrested in Uyo

A cyber scammer (yahoo boy) named Onyebuchi Nwalozie Julius was arrested by the EFCC Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, for posing as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Godwin Emefiele.

Latest nigeria newspaper reports that Onyebuchi, a Ngor-Okpala native in the state of Imo, who claims to be involved in asset management, confessed under interrogation that he supplanted the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN governor Dr. Godwin Emefiele with an email account : [email protected] and disappointed one Mr. Omar Es Sh Deeb.

Suspects whose specialty is Business Email Compromise BEC, said their modus operandi involves searching email addresses through Google search and sending convincing emails to potential victims.

Latest nigeria newspaper reports that Onyebuchi was arrested on December 6, 2019 in Owerri in the state of Imo. At the time of his arrest, the following items were recovered from him: an HP Laptop Envy with serial number CND62544TZ; HP laptop with serial number SCD8022CSF; iPhone X; Nokia phone, international passport ECOWAS-55389766, driver’s license and a Toyota Venza with registration number LSR 23 FQ.

An analysis of the HP Envy laptop revealed a large number of fraudulent emails sent by Onyebuchi to one of its victims, an Arab Omar Deeb, with false contract proposals that allegedly came from CBN, while posing as CBN governor. Onyebuchi successfully defrauded Mr. Deeb, who remitted funds, thinking he was actually dealing with the CBN governor, Dr. Godwin Emefiele.

Latest nigeria newspaper reports that However, Onyebuchi confessed to having benefited as much as N4.5million from his criminal enterprise, the investigation into the scam continues.
