DSS nabs two suspected internet fraudsters in Benin

State Edo State Department of Services (DSS) Command arrested two alleged internet scammers on Wednesday.

According to the Nigeria News Agency (NAN), the Director of the State Service, Mr. Brown Ekwoaba, revealed this while informing journalists about the Service’s activities in Benin on Wednesday.

He said the suspects were arrested for using the name of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and that of the First Lady, Ms. Aisha Buhari, to defraud the unsuspecting public.

Ekwoaba said one of the 30-year-old suspects was arrested through a coordinated tactical operation on July 25 in Ubiaja, a local government area in southeastern Esan.

He said the suspect allegedly owned a fictional Facebook account created under the name of the vice president.

Ekwoaba also said that another 18-year-old suspect was arrested on July 26 in Old Agbor Road, an area of ​​the local government of Ikpoba-Okha, for posing as the wife of the president of Nigeria.

He said the suspect allegedly created an Instagram account with the name and image of the First Lady for the purpose of cheating an unsuspecting audience.

The DSS director said the two suspects had confessed to the crimes and would soon be prosecuted in court.

He said: “The Service wishes to advise young people not to participate or contemplate participating in fraudulent acts, there can never be a shortcut to wealth.”
