The Shiite leader in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, arrived in New Delhi, the Indian capital, to receive medical treatment. He was received by a medical team that transported him in a wheelchair to the hospital.
El-Zakzaky and his wife traveled outside Nigeria on Monday at 6:30 pm, Nigeria time. The duo moved from Kaduna to Abuja on Sunday and had been detained by the government since 2016.
It should be remembered that the Kaduna State Government had released the conditions that must be met before El-Zakzaky is allowed to leave Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said in a statement that although the state government will appeal the ruling of the Kaduna High Court that allows traveling to El Zakzaky, it will not seek a suspension of execution because it believes that people should have access to treatment.
In his reaction, the legal luminaire, Femi Falana SAN, criticized the strict conditions of the Kaduna government.
