Former Arsenal midfielder Charlie Nicholas told Granit Xhaka that his club career was over after his shocking outburst during the draw with Crystal Palace.

Xhaka clashed with local fans after his replacement was met with sarcastic cheers, in a 2-2 draw with Palace on Sunday.

The Swiss international prompted the frustrated followers within the Emirates, cupping his ears before the boos and was seen shouting “f ** k off” while going down the tunnel.

“Xhaka is the current captain, but I don’t think he will be captain again after what he did over the weekend.”

“The fact that he did not apologize instantly tells you that he is upset, angry, and I am sure it is a horrible feeling for him. But that anger must be controlled. If you don’t have thick skin, you can’t be a footballer.

“Fans will always be an element of the football club and are bigger and better than anything else involved. He has to take his medicine, but I would be surprised if he returns to play in Arsenal,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
