Gov. Ikpeazu reacts to tribunal’s verdict reaffirming his re-election

The Governor of the State of Abia, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has reacted to the ruling of the Court of Petition for the Election of the Interior, which reaffirmed him as the winner of the presidential elections of March 9, 2019, in the State.

Remember that the three-man panel of the Court of Election of the Governor that is located in Umuahia, the capital of the State of Abia, and chaired by Judge AL Ogumoye, rejected on Friday the petition presented by the candidate for Governor of APGA of 2019, Dr. Alex Otti against the INEC statement of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as duly elected Governor of Abia in the last elections of 2019.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The Court ruled that the petitioner could not prove the case of over-voting, non-compliance with the electoral directive and electoral act of the INEC.

But Governor Ikpeazu, in a statement sent to Latest Nigeria newspaper  by his chief press secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka on Friday night, expressed his sincere gratitude to Almighty God for granting him victory in the Electoral Court of Governors.

Ikpeazu was quoted in the statement saying he has no grudge against those who challenged his election, noting that they did so in the exercise of their rights. He urged them to sheath their swords and join him in the construction of the State.

According to him, “I thank the good people of the State of Abia who chose me overwhelmingly and have supported me all this time. I assure you that this judicial victory will give me more energy to work more for peace, order, and good governance in the State of Abia.

“I must also thank the judges of the Court for standing firm and firm in defending the election made by our people during the last elections, and for resisting any attempt to use the sacred chambers of the judiciary as a theater where democratic yearnings and the aspirations of our people are dismembered and destroyed. ”

The Governor, however, greeted the industry and the manual work of his legal team by brilliantly ordering his case.Alex Otti (petitioner) had asked the Court to cancel fifteen of the election results of seventeen local government areas in the State of Abia.

Otti said the respondents, PDP, and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who was the PDP governor candidate, committed excessive negligence in those LGAs in the last March 9, 2019 elections held in the State.
