IPPIS: Presidency reveals why ASUU called off strike

President Muhammadu Buhari’s special assistant on social media, Lauretta Onochie, said the strike proposed by the University Academic Union (ASUU) was “revenge planned for the closure of the cold chamber.”

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The “cold chamber” is supposed to be a code name for the Lagos University Staff Club, where teachers take students to have fun.

Onochie tweeted: “ASUU suspends the proposed strike! There was no justification for it. It was revenge planned for the closure of #COLDROOM. ”

ASUU, on Thursday, suspended its strike proposal on the Federal Government directive to enroll its members in the Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Last month, Buhari warned that Federal Government employees not captured on the IPPIS platform before October 31, 2019, would no longer receive their salaries.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The president of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, explained that the union had decided to maintain the status quo, pending further meetings.

“What we have been saying is that the reaction of our members will depend on what happens in the government. Our members will meet at the appropriate time to make the right decision.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The Senate has intervened in the matter, and we are committing ourselves to the Senate, the Senate has appealed to us for now. When they pay other workers, they also pay them,” said Ogunyemi.
