Kogi West: Gov. Bello reacts to Appeal Court judgment sacking Dino Melaye

The Governor of the state of Kogi, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, praised the ruling of the Court of Appeals, which confirmed the previous decision of the Electoral Court of the National Assembly of the State of Kogi, annulling the senatorial election of Kogi West.

Bello, in the “Verdict of the Court of Appeals of Kogi West: Witnessing that the judiciary is impartial,” congratulated the candidate for the Congress of All Progressives, Senator Smart Adeyemi, during the last senatorial election of Kogi West, saying the judgment of the Court, which annulled the election. Dino Melaye of the PDP testified to the fact that the judiciary was firmly in progress and working in line with people’s aspirations.

The statement said: “To confirm the request of Senator Smart Adeyemi of the Congress of All Progressives (APC) and order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make a new election in the constituency, the Court, led by Judge AO Chijioke and the Court of Appeals have jointly demonstrated to the world that the people’s mandate was stolen in the last senatorial election of Kogi West, “said Bello.

“The courts did not decide in a vacuum but acted based on the merits and demerits of the case before them.

“The Court of Appeals and the entire Judiciary, therefore, deserves our recommendation to strengthen democratic and electoral processes in Nigeria further.”

Therefore, he congratulated the people of the Kogi West Senate District and noted that the judgment of the Court of Appeal was a claim of his stolen mandate.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The Governor added that he hoped that people would come en masse to elect Senator Smart Adeyemi of the APC in the election of the new poll, the date of which will be announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in due course.
