Lagos govt restricts VIOs from morning operation, gives reason



Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday ordered state vehicle inspection officers, VIO, to stop operating during the morning period.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that According to the governor, the measure is to stop the traffic jam experienced during peak periods, as it is perceived that the VIOs contribute to the traffic jam since they normally stop vehicles during peak periods to demand vehicle documents.

The governor, who addressed journalists after presiding over the Security Council Meeting at the State House, Ikeja, said the VIOs would now operate on the road for only three hours.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that According to him, the officers would now operate between 12.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. “We are going to restrict the operation of the VIO men to a period of low activity between 12 noon and 3 p.m.,” he said.
