The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has stated that many politicians in Nigeria own several houses and billions of Naira.
Latest Nigeria newspaper report that He said this on Tuesday in Abuja in a presentation of a book in honor of Chief Bisi Akande, the pioneer National President of the Congress of All Progressives (APC).
The event was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, ministers, legislators, representatives of the governors of Osun, Kano and Lagos.
“What we witness today is a celebration of a man of principles, integrity and politician with strict adherence to good governance.
“Their understanding of good governance is the positive influence that government can have on people. What we celebrate today is the contrast with a generally accepted misconception that integrity does not pay,” Mohammed told reporters at the event.
Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The minister added that the essence of being in politics was to provide a good government, a selfless service to the population and not over fat bank accounts.
“For example, today they told us that when the military attacked in 1983 and arrested Chief Akande, they found only about N2000 in his bank account.
“Today, we have many politicians in Nigeria who own so many houses, billions of Naira in their accounts, but they are not celebrated like this man,” he said.
