On Friday, a 45-year-old man, Emmanuel Toviho, appeared before the Badagry Magistrates Superior Court in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.
Toho, whose address is not provided, faces a charge of two counts of rape and sexual assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN),
the Prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Nkem told the court that the defendant committed the crimes on July 6 at Godo Guest House, Ibereko in Badagry. Nkem said that Toviho illegally had sex with the girl without her consent.
“The defendant forcibly penetrated the private part of the girl without her consent. “He also behaved in a way that could violate the peace,” the prosecutor said. Ikem said the crimes violated Sections 168 and 259 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
The chief judge, Mr. Patrick Adekomiya, admitted that the defendant had to bail out the sum of N300,000 with two guarantees in the same amount. He raised the case until August 6.
