Onyebuchi Kelvin, a 23-year-old truck pusher, who allegedly contaminated a neighbor’s six-year-old daughter, was sent to Lagos in Kirikiri prisons Tuesday by an Ikeja magistrates court.
Latest Nigeria Newspaper reports that the magistrate, Ms. B.O Osunsanmi, did not accept the defendant’s statement.
Osunsanmi ordered that he should be detained in prison custody pending legal advice from the Public Prosecution Directorate of the State of Lagos.
Kelvin, who resides in Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, is being tried for corruption. The Prosecutor, ASP. Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that the defendant committed the crime on August 17, at his residence.
Ayorinde said the defendant had carnal knowledge of his neighbor’s daughter.
He said: “The girl was playing in the back of the house when the defendant approached her and quickly had sex with her.
“The girl told her mother what the defendant did to her.
“A medical report also confirmed that the child had been contaminated.
“The mother reported the case to the police, which led to the arrest of the accused.”
Ayorinde said the crime violated Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
The case was postponed until October 9 to mention it.
