The United Political Parties Coalition, CUPP, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of turning Nigeria into a joke, adding that there is nothing to celebrate except pain, division, incompetence, banditry, tribalism, and hopelessness as the country meets 59 years.
Latest Nigeria newspaper report that CUPP said Buhari’s leadership style and incompetence are a mockery of the efforts of the nation’s founding fathers.
In a statement signed by their spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, and made available to Latest Nigeria newspaper on Monday, political parties also claimed that Nigeria is now on its way to impending collapse if Buhari is not arrested by the Supreme Court judges.
The statement added: “Tomorrow Tuesday, October 1, 2019, Nigeria will celebrate
its 59th anniversary of independence became independent from its colonial masters on October 1, 1960.
“That 1960 event was celebrated with fanfare due to the hope that it marks the beginning of a new life opportunity for the nation and its citizens.
“Nigerians and the friends of the nation expressed the firm belief that independence would bring prosperity to replace poverty, peace to replace insecurity, and joy to repair years of anguish and grief.
“Many years later, especially 59 years later, the United Political Parties Coalition regrets that the nation has returned to slavery under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The Buhari administration, which came to power in 2015 with the promise of bringing changes to the country, has made Nigeria a great joke among the community of nations.
“Instead of a positive change, the government of the Congress of All Progressives has only managed to unleash immeasurable pain, division, incompetence, banditry, tribalism, and hopelessness, among other evils about Nigerians in every measure.
“For the 59th anniversary of the independence of the nation, in fact, there is absolutely nothing to celebrate.
“Buhari has so far shown incompetence in the administration of this nation. His leadership style has ruined all efforts made by the founding fathers and former leaders of the government to reposition the country for the benefit of all.
“At this time, the economy of the nation is at its lowest point. There is an atmosphere of insecurity throughout the landscape of the country. Terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping, among others, have become the order of the day.
“Under Buhari, the rule of law has been neglected since its administration chooses which court orders to obey and which to reject.
“The administration has inflicted fear on the Judiciary by harassing and arresting judges at will, therefore, defiling the temple of justice.
“The opposition parties point out that if Nigeria continues on this same path under Buhari, the country will move towards an imminent collapse.
“We wait and pray that the judges of the Supreme Court of the nation resist the siege of the Judiciary by the current administration and do what is necessary for the appeal of the presidential candidate of the opposition, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who is currently before them.”
“The Judiciary must stop Buhari if the country must move forward. Judges can rescue Nigeria from Buhari and prevent it from collapsing.
“We assure Nigerians that true independence will come to them and the country under better administration, and not under the Buhari administration.”
