The governor of the state of Rivers, south-south of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the presidential election request court.
Naija News previously reported that the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPT) on Wednesday rejected the request of the Popular Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
In sentencing, Judge Mohammed Garba, who led a panel of five-man judges, said: “This petition is accordingly, and is hereby dismissed in its entirety.
“In the final result, and I have come to the conclusion that it is inevitable and unavoidable, that the petitioners have not proven any of the reasons for the petition in paragraph 15 of the petition.
“This petition is consequently and hereby dismissed in its entirety.”
Naija News recalls that PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, rejected the court’s verdict and asked its lawyers to file an appeal with the supreme court.
However, Wike, one of the main members of the PDP who was the coordinator of the Atiku campaign in the south-south, sent a congratulatory message to President Buhari.
In a message issued by his media assistant, Simeon Nwakaudu, on his behalf, Wike asked President Buhari to use his victory to unite the Nigerians. “Regardless of their political inclinations.”
“Governor Wike asked the president to work towards the unity of the country, noting that the country is divided,” Nwakaudu said in a statement.
