President Buhari reacts to death of 38 people in Bauchi



President Muhammadu Buhari commiserate with the families of the 38 victims of a boat accident in the Local Council of Kirfi, Bauchi state, describing the incident “as a devastating tragedy not only for the families of the victims but also for the country “.

The president’s message of condolence was conveyed through a statement from his senior special assistant in media and advertising, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Tuesday.

“As the families of the unfortunate victims cry, I express my condolences at this tough difficult time, and I pray that Allah will comfort and give them the strength to endure this irreparable loss,” the statement said.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that the ugly incident was made public by the President, Committee of Caregivers of the Local Government of Kirfi, Alhaji Bappa, Abdu Bara Danmalikin Bara, who spoke with journalists.

He said: “I want to sympathize with the people of Kirfi, the state of Bauchi and Nigeria in general, for the loss of our brothers on their way to their farms.

“They boarded a canoe, 40 of them on Monday, October 7, 2019, and unfortunately 38 of them drowned. Only two people survived.

“We discovered only two bodies along Badara when we performed a search and rescue operation. Local experts searched the waterways, but unfortunately, we did not recover more organs of the victims. We suspect everyone drowned.
