Presidential Tribunal: Atiku, PDP distracted Nigeria people with unnecessary petitions – UPP

The national president of the United Progressive Congress (UPP), chief Chekwas Okorie, has said that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the requests of the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) have only managed to unnecessarily distract the attention of the people of Nigeria.

Abubakar was the PDP presidential candidate during the February 23, 2019 elections.

Latest Nigeria News reported that the judge, Mohammed Garba, ordered by the Court dismissed the request of Atiku and PDP in its entirety.

The court ruled that the electronic transfer of results, which was the crux of the opposition’s request, did not take place at any level.

But, the national president of the UPP, reacting to the verdict of the court in a statement obtained by Nigeria Newspaper on Wednesday night, praised the Presidential Election Court for reaffirming the emergence of Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of Congress Every Progressive (APC) as the duly elected president of Nigeria in the last general elections of 2019 in the country.

The statement said in part: “With joy we remember that on August 17, 2018, when the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party decided unequivocally to support President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for 2019 Elections presidential, we unequivocally declare in our speech to the press immediately after our NEC meeting on the same date that we would contribute with our quota to ensure that the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential elections of February 23, 2019 would be so blunt of a That would make any request against the election result a mere unnecessary national distraction.

“On November 20, 2018, the leaders of our Party led by our National President, Dr. Chekwas Okorie, received an audience in the Presidential Village, Abuja, to meet with the President where the Party transmitted its resolution not to present a Candidate Presidential on the UPP platform to focus our attention and energy on campaigning for him. He won the election with a margin of almost four million votes for his closest rival. We sincerely advise the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to accept the outcome of the elections in the spirit of sportsmanship.

“Unfortunately, they chose to proceed to the Court with their petition against the election of President Buhari. True to our prediction, they have only managed to unnecessarily distract the attention of the Nigerian people. We hope your misfortune can rest at this point and save the nation from more distractions.

“In congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari, we urge him to accept his victory with the magnanimity of a forgiving father. You must remain focused on carrying out the burdensome responsibilities of your office. The United Progressive Party and its leadership are committed to remain constructively committed to the President until the successful completion of his second and final term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “
