Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike revealed that he congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari after the Presidential Election Petition Court confirmed his election because he is not a hypocrite like other governors.
Naija news report that Wike said it is better to congratulate the public than to visit the president at night. Governor Wike said that, unlike some governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDPs who visit President Muhammadu Buhari at night, made his statement public because it came from the heart.
The state government of Rivers offered the explanation on Thursday, at the funeral service in honor of the late Mrs. Blessing Awuse, mother of Sergeant Major Chidi Awuse, at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Emohua.
Governor Wike said politics is a game of interest, and noted that the people of Rivers in the All Progressives Congress have an obligation to attract federal benefits to the state.
He said: “I am sure you are all surprised to have congratulated Buhari.” Isn’t it good for me to congratulate you, to go home at night?
“Many governors of the PDP go to see him at home at night. I have never gone and I will not go. I’m not going
“We are the only state in which the Federal Government refused to pay us the money we use to execute federal projects because I am not going to see it at night and I am not going.” He is not my friend, he is not doing well, but he won in court, if I must say that the court did wrong, no.
“President Buhari, congratulations and take the Nigerians. Unify the country, the country is too divided. I am saying what is right. What I will do, I will do, what I will not do, I will not do.
“Politics is a game of interest. And my only interest is Rivers State. Anything that goes against the interest of the state of Rivers, I will not agree.
“These people sold us, thinking they are doing Governor Wike. It is the State you are offending because I am only one person.
Therefore, he expressed dissatisfaction because Rivers State has key links with State President Muhammadu Buhari, however, East West Road, seaports and other federal projects have been completely neglected since 2015, adding that nothing indicates that Rivers State have prominent APC members working with President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We produce oil. They shouldn’t punish Rivers State because of me. I am just an individual. We have not benefited anything from the Federal Government. The only thing we have benefited from is the abuse they inflict on me.
“They turned the NDDC into a source of revenue to sponsor elections against us. No one protested that anomaly. Now they want us to protest because someone didn’t nominate NDDC management this time.
“Since 2015, NDDC has not had its board of directors, but nobody protested. I will not be dragged into such protests, ”he said.
