Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the 2019 Popular Democratic Party, PDP, has joined other Nigerians to condemn the murder of the Catholic priest, the Rev. Fr. Paul Offu by alleged pastors.
Offu was killed by unidentified gunmen, suspected of being armed shepherds, while traveling on Ihe-Agbudu Road in the local Awgu state government area of the state on the night of Thursday, August 1.
Since then, his death has provoked various reactions from Catholic priests who organized a protest and other well-intentioned Nigerians.
Atiku, in his reaction, said that the death of Reverend Offu is a reminder that “nobody is immune to the devastating epidemic.” The former vice president extended his condolences to the families of the Catholic priest.
Atiku on his Twitter page wrote: “The assassination of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu, in the state of Enugu, is another reminder that no one is immune to this devastating epidemic.
“My most sincere condolences to the Offu family and the Catholic Church in Nigeria. May his soul rest in peace.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed deep shock and dismay at the murder of another priest and ordered an exhaustive search for the murderers and their immediate prosecution.
