RevolutionNow: Ezekwesili blasts police for calling protest ‘unlawful’



Oby Ezekwesili, former presidential candidate of the Allied Party of the Congress of Nigeria, ACPN, criticized the Nigerian Police Force after an Assistant Police Commissioner in Lagos, Tijani Fatai, described the RevolutionNow protest as an illegal assembly.

The daily message reported on Monday that heavily armed security agents of the Police Command in Lagos, the Army, and the NSCDC blocked the entrance to the National Stadium, Surulere, before the protest led by Omoyele Sowore.

Area Commander, Area C, ACP Tijani Fatai spoke while informing reporters that his operations were on the ground to stop any form of protests at the stadium.

“Their meeting is illegal, and an illegal meeting is supposed to be dropped. We had to evict them because they don’t have permission,” said Fatai.

Reacting, Ezekwesili, in a tweet, described the statement as a “high level of ignorance” of the Nigerian constitution.

She wrote: “I just saw an official from @PoliceNG calling a meeting of citizens who went out to protest against Bad Governance an” illegal assembly. “Such high-level ignorance of the Constitution and the Laws of the Earth. @BBOG_Nigeria assured a trial against such asphyxiation of Freedom in 2014 “.
