The People Democratic Party (PDP) has told its members that they are looking for tickets to the government of Kogi and Bayelsa that only delegates will decide their candidacy, not party leaders.
The national president, Uche Secondus, gave the advice Wednesday in Abuja, in presenting the certificates of authorization to the candidates.
“Work on delegates; Do not trust any party leader. Even members of the National Labor Committee (NWC) cannot help you,” he said.
He assured the applicants a level playing field, adding that the group did not have a preferred candidate.”Go and work in the delegates. They are the ones who will choose him as a candidate; No one else, not even NWC members, can help you.
“All I can assure you is that we are going to make free, fair and transparent primaries in the states of Kogi and Bayelsa,” he said. The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that certificates were issued to authorized applicants from both states.’
Among them were the former governor of Kogi, Idris Wada, Senator Dino Melaye, Abubakar Ibrahim, a son of former governor Ibrahim Idris and ten others.
Those authorized for Bayelsa included the vice governor, John Jona; the Secretary of the State Government (SSG), Kemela Okara, former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Timi Alaibe.
Also on Bayelsa’s list were Ambassador Godknows Igali, Senator Douye Diri and 16 others.
