Stop using Google Map while driving – FRSC warns Nigerians

The commander of the FCT sector of the Federal Corps of Road Safety (FRSC), Ayuba Gora, says that driving with the help of Google Map using mobile phones is a serious traffic offense.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that Mr. Gora said this at the inauguration of the 2019 Ember Months Campaign by the FRSC Lugbe Unit Command in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the law prohibits motorists from using mobile phones in any way while driving, as it can cause an accident. He also informed motorists that the body will soon begin to apply the installation of speed limitation devices.

Gora advised motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, that they have not yet installed the device to do so. “We will embark on massive vehicle controls without this device soon and arrest those who disconnected the devices from their vehicles.

“It is very important that all vehicles have the device installed in their vehicles. The speed limit required for commercial vehicles, even on highways, should not exceed 90 km / h for buses and taxis.

“By doing this today, we are simply reminding motorists that they should drive carefully and observe traffic rules and regulations to make everyone’s job easier.

“If you are arrested during this period, you will not only pay fines, but you will have to undergo an emotional assessment test at the hospital to determine your mental state before we let you go,” he said.

He urged the public to dial 122 or 112 in case they notice unusual behavior of road users and in case of an accident.

Gora denied speculation that the speed limit device damages the car’s engine, saying it had nothing to do with the engine, but only cut off the fuel supply during the speeding attempt.

“Once the vehicle reaches a predetermined maximum speed, the computer intervenes and restricts the flow of air and fuel to the engine and even the sparks that cause combustion.

“In any case, the vehicle may not exceed the maximum speed as determined by the car manufacturer.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The problem we have with the operators of these vehicles is that, when a speed limiter is installed, they manipulate it. In the process of manipulation by disconnection, it leads to a problem, ”he added.
