The representative of the state government of Cross River on the Governing Board of the Teaching Hospital of the University of Calabar (UCTH), the legal advisor of the interested staff of the institution and some applicants who applied for the position of Director of Administration in the Institution ( UCTH) have requested President of the Governing Board on the appointment of the Director of Administration (DA) by the Federal Ministry of Health.
The Federal Ministry of Health had in a reference letter SMH / 530 / T / 1/71, dated July 19, 2019, entitled ‘Re: Director of Administration, University Hospital of the University of Calabar’ addressed to the President of the Council of Government signed by the Permanent Secretary, AM Abdullahi had appointed a Barr Eyoma Edetdet Obong as Director of Administration.
Interestingly, the institution announced on June 29, 2019, for the vacant position of the Director of Administration after the retirement of the DA holder, Prof Archibong E. Archibong on September 10, 2019.
However, the expiration date of the six weeks for the announcement to pass, seven people have already submitted their request, suddenly, the Federal Ministry of Health rejected others for applying and appointed Barr Ededet Eyoma Obong against due evaluation process, interview and appointment, GISTOK assembled.
The Board member who represented the State Government of Cross River and also the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Joseph A. Bassey, requested the Chairman of the Board on the appointment of the DA. The petition, dated August 1, 2019, entitled Re: ‘Appointment of the Director of Administration, University Hospital of the University of Calabar,’ lamented the flagrant abuse of due process by the Federal Ministry of Health.
