Tribunal upholds Umahi’s election



The Election Petition Court, sitting in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi state, confirmed on Monday the election of Governor David Umahi of the People Democratic Party, PDP, in the election of the governor on March 9.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that The election of the governor was challenged by the candidate of the Popular Democratic Movement, PDM, Chief Ajah Agha, who asked the Court for what he described as the illegal exclusion of his name from the INEC ballot, accusing the PDP and his candidate of having planned his elimination.

The session that took place at the facilities of the State Superior Court had Judge A.B Abdulkarim as presiding judge. The court ruling that took more than three months to be delivered was dismissed on Monday for lack of merit by Judge Abdulkarim.

In issuing the ruling, the president of the Court annulled the case and said: “PDM did not present the name of its candidate to INEC when it was supposed to.”

“His part sent the name three days after the closing of the presentation according to the finding.” Besides, his party did not organize primaries to produce a candidate according to the INEC guidelines. Therefore, his request is without merit,” he said.
