We have devised new strategies to combat insurgency in Nigeria – Army

The Chief of the Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, said that the Nigerian Army had devised new strategies to deal with the insurgency in the country.

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that Buratai revealed this on Monday in Uyo, while giving his opening speech at the twelfth biennial training conference for Nigeria Army Finance Corp, with the theme “Expanding the Nigerian army’s roles in the internal security operation: Financing imperatives”, which It was held at Ibom Hotels and the golf complex.

Represented by the Chief Executive Officer of the 6th Nigerian Army Division, Division General Jamil Sarham, the Army Chief listed some of the new strategies designed to include increased troop capacity in defense, logistics, and intensification of the collection of combat intelligence.

He said they have also manufactured military vehicles and equipment to increase operational capacity and, more recently, the injection of the Super camp concept.

His words: “To mitigate the challenges identified, we have had to be innovative and inventive to devise new response strategies to combat insurgents.

“Some of the strategies include increasing the capacity of troops in defense, logistics, and the intensified collection of combat intelligence.

“We have also manufactured military vehicles and equipment to increase operational capacity and, more recently, the injection of the Super camp concept.”

Latest Nigeria newspaper report that He said that despite some discouraging challenges of operations, the army is gradually changing the trend against insurgents.

Therefore, he asked the Federal Government to improve its financing for the army to face the current challenges of curbing the insurgency in the country and added that the existing funding was inadequate given the roles that the army was playing in the internal security of the nation.

He said that the financial body of the Nigerian army remained fundamental to the performance and effectiveness of the army both in operations and in peacetime.

He commended the effort of the Chief of Accounts and Budget of the Army with his team, to whom he said he played the role of the Finance Corps effectively to ensure prudent management of resources to achieve good value for money.

In his comments, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom called on the private sector to help fund the operations of the Nigerian army by saying that the government cannot do it alone.

However, Emmanuel, who was represented by Akan Okon, Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, praised the army for its role in curbing the insurgency, kidnapping, banditry, and other security challenges facing the nation.

Also, in his welcome speech, the Head of Accounts and Budget (Army), Major General. Adekola Bakare said that the issue was deliberately chosen to state the challenges posed by inadequate financing of army operations despite its growing role in internal security.
